Tustin, California-based CMS Enhancements is extending its line of Calling Card modems and has launched several subsystems and disk drives. The modem is 2,400bps, internal Micro Channel-compatible with a 9,600bps facsimile send-receive. It differentiates between fax and modem calls and comes with communication and fax software at $600. On the subsystem side, CMS has a new Universal Series of disk subsystems for use with Compaq, AST, NEC, Epson and compatible computers. The subsystems are available with 20Mb to 200Mb and will include drives with ST506 interface, both RLL and MFM recording methods, SCSI and AT-type drives with 40-pin connectors at prices from $380 to $1,680. A 2 20Mb hard disk for NEC’s MultiSpeed HD, the LDSNEC HD-20 includes the Stop Lite utility, which, according to CMS, extends battery life to almost 90% of the normal operation time of a laptop without a hard disk, by automatically shutting down the new drive until access is required. The price of the LDSNEC HD-20 is $1,000. CMS has also has a 20Mb internal hard disk drive for the Tandy 1400FD portable and a 40Mb disk for the Tandy 1400LT, Tandy 1400 FD and HD computers has also been launched. Both subsystems, which feature a 28mS average access time, include the Stop Lite utility, and the LD1400FD-20 and Super LiteDrive II/40 weigh 10oz and cost $1,000 and $1,200 respectively. The LiteTape is a 40Mb, floppy tape subsystem for the NEC ProSpeed 286 and Epson Equity LT286 laptops. It uses a QIC-40 format and transfers data at 3.75M-bytes-per-minute; it’s $650. At the higher end, CMS has a new range of SCSI disks for Compaq, AST, Epson machines and IBM PS/2s. The Lanstack series of external hard disk subsystems has been upgraded to include drives that have a wider range of capacities and faster access times. A 50 pin connector has also been added to the external cabinets for greater reliability when daisy-chaining the drives together. The internal Sentry Series has the same capacities and specifications as the external Lanstacks. The internal drives include all necessary mounting hardware and a daisy chain cable for the external units. Each requires either a CMS SCSI host adaptor or IBM’s new SCSI adaptor. Prices of the Lanstack series subsystems are $1,500 for 90Mb; $2,300 for 150Mb; $3,200 for 320Mb; $3,200 for 320Mb; $4,400 for 660Mb and $7,500 for 1Gb. Lastly, CMS is shipping half-height subsystems with capacities of 95Mb, 140Mb and 340Mb and a full-height 670Mb subsystem in its Express line for Compaq, AST, Epson and IBM PS/2 computers. These subsystems feature average access times from 15mS to 18mS and data transfer rates from 12.5M-bits to 15Mbps. Prices for the new Express Series models are $1,400, $1,700, $2,700 and $3,900 respectively.
