The Cable & Wireless Plc-C Itoh-led International Digital Communications Co, which wants to begin offering international telecommunications in April, now has agreement with AT&T Co for use of its lines within the US, and has applied to the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications for approval: its competitor, International Telecom Japan has already concluded a similar agreement with AT&T, but International Digital’s negotiations were drawn out because of Pacific Telesis’ problems in getting Judge Greene to approve its investment; the fact that both will be using AT&T is expected only to intensify price competition between the two, which is good news for the user, but perhaps not so good for the companies heavily invested in the two firms.
