Symantec has launched FileStore, a new system which it claims to allow organisations build high-performance file-based storage services for their enterprise, including private and public clouds.
The company claims that the new FileStore manages and protects critical information, maximises system performance and scale performance and capacity non-disruptively as application needs change.
Symantec itself deploys FileStore as the file-based storage architecture in its own cloud services, with more than 40 petabytes of online storage for more than nine million active users. A single FileStore system can scale up to 16 nodes and 2 petabytes of total storage.
According to the Symantec, the FileStore enables organisations to add or remove storage without taking systems offline. It integrates natively with the company’s security and information management services, including Symantec NetBackup and Symantec Endpoint Protection. These services run directly on the FileStore nodes, enhancing security and simplifying operations by eliminating the requirement for additional server and storage resources for backup and security.

Symantec FileStore is available at $6,995 for two nodes and two CPU sockets.
