CXI, the data communications division of Novell Inc has introduced an IBM-compatible micro-to-mainframe communications board for Models 50 and above of IBM’s Personal System/2 family of microcomputers. The new PCOX/COAX-P coaxial board works with standalone PS/2 computers as well as with PS/2s on a NetWare local area network. It comes with software that runs on IBM’s 3278/9 Advanced Emulator Adaptor and provides PS/2 users with single and multiple host sessions; all points addressable graphics; and emulation of expensive mainframe printers by personal computer printers. The software also supports windowing and file transfer. The PCOX/COAX-P can also function as a gateway on a NetWare local area network. When the board is installed in one PS/2 on the network along with PCOX/GW-3270 gateway software, each personal computer on the network that has PCOX local area network workstation software can access to mainframe resources through the gateway. The new board costs $545 and is available now through CXI’s existing distribution channels.
