VanDyke Software has released VShell 3.6 server, which it claims to help organisations transfer files and secure data with access control and configuration options. It provides new controls over user access to commands and subsystems through public key private use headers.
The company claims that the new offering also improves back-end control with the ability to set environment variables with SSH2 on the windows server and expands logging capability for Unix and Linux versions.
According to VanDyke, on the client side, the release of ClientPack 6.5 adds to its utility toolkit with VRALib, a Windows COM and .NET API and DLL for scripting secure shell connections. The VRALib API provides access to functions including controlling SSH2 connections, sending SSH2 commands and collecting output, performing SFTP file transfer and remote file management, setting up tunnels to encrypt TCP traffic, adding host keys to the host key database and adding keys to the SSH2 authentication agent.
The VShell secure shell server replaces Telnet and FTP for network administration and end-user access on Windows and Unix platforms. Precision control over privileges, the ability to fine-tune secure shell environment and a selection of authentication methods give a flexible offering that grows with security policies, the company claims.
The company said that the VanDyke ClientPack combines a set of automation tools and command-line utilities for automating routine file transfer, shell and public-key administration tasks on Windows, Linux and Unix.

VShell 3.6 provides that by allowing admins to restrict users to commands or subsystems through the same public key that authenticates the user.
