The Central Computer & Telecommuncations Agency has released a new version of the UK Government’s Open Systems Interconnection Profile – GOSIP 3.1. GOSIP is more or less a simplified version of international Open System Interconnection standards, and defines specifications for the purchase of new computer communications systems in government departments and agencies. GOSIP 3.1 includes enhanced specifications in the areas of File Transfer Access and Management – FTAM – and VT, virtual terminal. New definitions cover recommendations for X400 message handling systems and X500 directory services. The message handling profile includes added functionality for remote user support, message stores, distribution lists and secure messaging. Published in four volumes, GOSIP 3.1 costs UKP95 from Her Majesty’s Stationery Office.
