AT&T BELL LABORATORIES HAS FIBRE OPTIC SYSTEM

AT&T Bell Laboratories has built an experimental fibre optic system that enables the distance between repeaters to be extended to 230 miles: Bell Labs reckons that the new amplifiers enable it to claim back from Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp of Japan the records for the distance between repeaters.
