The one community of people that seems to have no doubt at all about the desirability of the IBM Personal System/2 and the money to be made from cloning the thing is the Taiwanese: the quasi state Electronics Research Service Organisation will have PS/2 Model 50 and 60 clone design prototypes in June, and Model 80s shortly thereafter, and United Microelectronics Corp, Kopam Electronics and Mitac will shortly have Microchannel clones on the market – with generous help from the likes of Chips & Technologies, Phoenix Technologies and Western Digital Corp chip sets and Basic Input-Output Systems cast in ROM.
