Northern Telecom Ltd, 52% owned by Bell Canada Enterprises Inc, has formed a new division based in Nashville, Tennessee to try to increase its estimated 2% share of the $6bn a year US data communications market; the new division will handle the minicomputer based DV-1 data and voice systems unveiled last year, says the Wall Street Journal, to a lukewarm reception, as well as data packet networks, long-distance telephone networks and switches sold to the US government; the paper says the unit will later this year unveil a stand-alone local area network and a new voice and data multiplexer.
