The Hightech-Lab Japan Ltd software house has developed a Digital Production System which enables integrated editing of character, speech and picture data: enormous tapes of data are transferred to a Compact Disk-Read Only Memory, and can then be edited and used to produce printed matter; the system was developed in conjunction with Sumisho Denshi Systems, Sumiden, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corp, which supplies the hardware including a video workstation and processor and a digital PBX; the two companies will market the system together to US and Japanese publishing, broadcasting and information services companies at prices ranging from $2.1m to $7m, and they hope to get 10 away in the first year.
