Cambridge Computer Graphics Ltd of Waterbeach, Cambridge is launching its Phantom range of graphics accelerator cards for personal computers this month. The application specific integrated circuit device is claimed to provide more processing power than anything currently available for the personal computer, and its parallel pipelined architecture enables the execution of multiple instructions within a single cycle. It is based on HCMOS technology using 51,000-gate arrays, and the in-house developed chip with a 40nS instruction time handles all the vector processing which can be over 1m vectors per second. The Phantom cards support the TiGA graphical interface and Computer Graphics also has an optimised driver for AutoCAD. The Phantom range caters for resolutions of up to 1,600 by 1,200 pixels and users have a choice of 16 to 256 colours from a palette of 16.7m. The entry-level price for the new accelerator cards is UKP3,500.
