Today is the big day – England v Scotland at Wembley Stadium, London.
It’s been a long time since Scotland’s last visit to the English capital. Back in the autumn of 1999 Don Hutchison grabbed the winner there for Scotland in a 1-0 victory in the Euro 2000 playoff second leg. But it wasn’t quite enough for the Scots as they lost the tie 2-1 overall.
It’s strange to think that it’s been so long since this fixture took place. Scotland and England have the oldest international football rivalry, after all, and it used to be an annual event that fans on both sides looked forward to with great excitement.
This time around, the rebuilt Wembley Stadium has a lot to offer from a tech point of view. Earlier this year, massive LED displays were implemented to show action, information and ads to the crowd.
There are two main LED displays that act as the central attractions, both of which have curved surfaces rather than the typical flat aspect, which is found in most other arenas. Not only are the curved displays easier to mount on a stadium, which is usually built around a curved design itself, but fans can get a much better view.
I think this will also be the first international match hosted at Wembley at which goal line technology will be in use, so any goal line incidents will be replayed on the big screens too.
I just hope Scotland get close enough to England’s goal line for any incidents to even be a possibility!
