Broomfield, Colorado-based Pentax Technologies Corp claims to have the first complete flatbed scanner package costing under $1,000 – it will offer the IQ Scan legal-size, flatbed scanner Model SB-L301 and one of three interface kits for $995; the Asahi Optical Co Ltd subsidiary says that the 300 dots per inch scanner runs at 17 seconds per page and is available for XT- and AT-alikes, PS/2s, Apple Computer Inc Macintoshes, and other systems with SCS interface; the Japanese company also introduced WordScan and WordScan Plus OCR software from Calera Recognition Systems Inc, of Santa Clara, California.
