We’d certainly appreciate the recognition but… Adolph Coors Co, which forgot to mention that it brews beer in the Rockies, announces that the inventor of the silicon chip, Jack St Clair Kilby, is the 1987 recipient of the Coors American Ingenuity Award, established to recognise individuals who have made unique and lasting contributions to American business without having received widespread recognition: the award is for Kilby’s 1958 invention of the monolithic integrated circuit – he went on to win more than 50 patents in the field, including the first for the pocket calculator – but will he be able to find room for the original bronze sculpture by Colorado artist Alonzo Clemons?
