SynOptics Communications Inc, of Mountain View, California, has announced the LattisNet System 3000 networking line. The LattisNet 3000 line provides a backplane to support multiple access networking methods, and includes concentrators and host and retiming modules. The company says the system is designed for complex networks, and that its expanded networking capabilities include higher port and module density, integrated bridging and network management functions. Working with unshielded twisted pair, shielded twisted pair and fibre optic host modules, LattisNet Model 3000 Premises and Model 303 Department Concentrators offer IEEE 802.3-compatible Ethernet at 10Mbps in a star topology; SynOptics says the System 3000 will eventually be capable of supporting Token Ring and Fibre Digital Data Interface implementations. In networks configured with LattisNet Network Management Release 2.0, System 3000 host modules provide board and port-level diagnostic capabilities. Available immediately worldwide, the System 3000 is priced at from $350 to $500 per port.
