Uccel Corp went on a spending spree over Christmas, lashing out a total of $60m on four companies and buying two further products. The most significant acquisition was of the ACF2 access control program, which involved Uccel in paying a total of $48m for two companies that together owned ACF2, SKK Inc of Chicago, which has 150 employees and cost Uccel $27m, and Cambridge Systems Group, of Santa Clara, California, which has 75 employees and cost Uccel $21m. They pair did a combined $30m in 1986. The Dallas, Texas firm also paid about $3.7m for Triangle Software Inc, San Jose, California, whose key software products are FinalTest and the Cross Check file comparison system; both for all IBM operating systems; it has 75 staff worldwide. Fourth acquisition was California Software Inc of Los Angeles (not to be confused with Baby 36 developer California Software Products Inc). California’s key product is the Netman administration and maintenance program for on-line MVS, VM/CMS and DOS/VS and VSE systems. Uccel paid about $3m for the firm, which has 30 employees. In additional Uccel bought the ISS-Three expert system for capacity management from International Systems Services Corp of New York, and agreed to buy the Mazdamon network performance program from Graham Software, Toronto.
