Following the agreement between Compagnie Generale d’Electricite SA and Fiat SpA under which Alcatel NV will take control of Telettra SpA, Spain’s Amper SA is seeking a new partner for a long-term strategic alliance. According to Cinco Dias, it suspended discussions while negotiating with Fiat’s Telettra subsidiary, and while it is still hopeful that an arrangement can be reached with Telettra’s new management, the merger has undoubtedly changed the situation. However, Amper has entered into negotiations with Italtel SpA, Robert Bosch GmbH’s Bosch Telecom, Philips Kommunications Industrie, as well as Nokia Data which is actively seeking European partners. Another possibility is Philips NV, currently rationalising its activities and said to be looking for a partner for subsidiaries such as PAI, which has an agreement with Indelec for Spain.
