The 5394 Release 2 is a microcode release offering functional enhancements to the 5394 Remote Control Unit for workstations, and apart from a minor National Language Support keyboard support change, provides all the functions of Release 1, with additional functions to enhance National Language Support, 3270 device emulation, and communication with IBM AS/400, System/36, and System/38 host systems. 5394s communicating with an OS/400 Release 2 system must have 5394 Release 2 microcode installed to maintain functional consistency between local and remote workstations. There is also attachment support for the 6262 Model T12 and T14 and 4224 Model 1E3 printers on 5394 Release 1 and Release 2. The new microcode is free to existing users and comes standard with 5394s after October.There is also a $400 trade-in credit in the US to customers who replace their 5251 Model 12 Display Stations with the IBM 5394 Remote Control Unit Models 01B, 01C, and 02B: the eligible replacement 5394 must be ordered on or before December 29, 1989, and the date of installation must be on or before March 30, 1990. The customer must return the replaced 5251 Model 12 to IBM within three months of installation of the 5394, but not later than June 29, 1990; the $400 is in addition to any published Volume Procurement Amendment discounts, but not to any other special offers or bids.
