System 38 specialist Insight Database Systems Plc has launched AMIS, Advanced Management Information System, a replacement for its Insight decision support package. AMIS, which took over four years to develop, is aimed at accountants and managers who wish to use information stored on the machine’s database for financial planning or analysis, but unlike Insight which only offers two- dimensional modelling, AMIS supports multi-dimensional planning. Among the virtues of the AMIS, according to product manager Nick Gomersall, are the speed with which large consolidations can be carried out in organisations with many divisions spread over several locations and the ability of AMIS to access application files in use elsewhere on the machine. AMIS costs UKP15,000 with maintenance another UKP2,500 a year. A Personal Computer version of the product, which is based around a software emulation of the System 38 database logical file structure on the Personal, costs UKP1,000 with a 50% discount on orders of 10 or more.
