International Computers GmbH, West German sister of ICL, has installed an extensive desk-top UNix system for the British Army of the Rhine. This marks completion of the second phase of a $7m deal that covered installation of 44 DRS systems supporting 300 linked terminals for officer and administration use. Fibre optic cables will link the systems to a large ICL Series 39 Level 60 mainframe in Rheindalen. The second phase, valued at $1.5m involved an additional 14 DRS Unix systems, 100 terminals, 20 laser printers and a new X25-Network to replace the proprietary Information Processing Architecture.
