You can always tell when IBM is worried – it starts throwing around numbers that in most circumstances would be treated as strictly company-confidential, and IBM’s announcement on Tuesday that it will have sent out 3m PS/2s, half of them Micro Channel machines (CI No 1,014) by the end of this month, makes it clear that the company is worried at the EISA bus proposals: it is also muttering darkly that as the thing is derived from the AT bus, it may well infringe IBM patents, in which case the company will be wanting its pound of flesh from every machine sold using the bus.
