Management of the secondary storage in top-end mainframe environments is becoming so complex that Louisville, Colorado based Storage Technology Corp reckons that it needs a relational database management system on the host or the controller to do the job properly. After looking around at the options, it has chosen Oracle Corp’s Oracle database, signing a value-added relicensor co-operative software agreement with the Oracle Products Division of the Belmont, California company, on future as well as current versions of the database. Storage Tek says that the database will serve as a fundamental component of its future software offerings as it strives to bring new levels of intelligence to the man agement of the secondary storage hierarchy on both IBM and non-IBM mainframes.
