Computer Corp of America Inc, the company which has been making waves in the IBM mainframe relational database world with its Model 204 database, is up for sale, as are the other electronic businesses collectively known as Crowntek. According to Electronic News, parent CrownX Inc of Toronto is selling because it wants to concentrate on its financial services and healthcare businesses. Computer Corp, expected to do between $42m and $50m this year, is thought to have made a loss last year on sales on $42m. CrownX is promising to continue to run Computer Corp as a going concern until it is sold, and has even set aside cash to fund its development and marketing programmes for next year, allowing its op erating budget to rise about 12% over 1987 levels. Model 204 acc ounts for between 50% and 60% of turnover, but the product portfolio also includes the Workshop applica tions development tools, the near-English User Language, the Imagine report-writing tool, and Accolade applications code generator. The Cambridge, Massachusetts company employs about 450 people worldwide, and has direct sales units in the US and UK, distributors elsewhere.
