Fujitsu duly announced its new M-series mainframes this week (CI No 626), and all three – M730 against the 9370s and 4381, M760 against the lower-end 3090s, and M780 lined up against the biggest 3090s, run the three Fujitsu operating systems, the OSIV/ESP version of XA, the MSP version of MVS/SP, and Fujitsu’s FSP. Networking software to Open Systems standards and called OCSF was added to link the machines to Fujitsu’s A-30 minicomputers. The 730 and 760 use 20,000 gate high-speed high-integration CMOS and 1M-bit memory chips. The M730 is to be available later this month amd the M760 at the end of July. Fujitsu looks to sell a total of 1,200 M-700 machines in four years, worth $20,000m all told.
