Compaq Computer Corp yesterday announced availability of the MS OS/2 1.0 operating system for all its 80286 and 80386 machines in New York, and some 20 software vendors turned out to show protected mode applications running on the machines – making it clear that they were compatible with applications written for OS/2 on the IBM PS/2 – but they run faster; Compaq also announced a 3.5 1.44Mb floppy drive option for all its portables, supported by MS-DOS 3.3 and MS-OS/2 1.0; in the UK, MS-DOS 3.3 users can upgrade to OS/2 for UKP120 from March 1, and others get the operating system for UKP235; the new 1.44Mb 3.5 disk drive will sell for UKP195.
