For those who were left completely in the dark by the tailpiece in CI No 1,127 on IBM’s showing at UniForum, the point is that despite being pored over by more people than any other firm’s press releases before they go out, IBM announcements are notorious for the frequency with which they contain glaring errors, and this was no exception: the Network File System belongs not to Apollo Computer Inc but to Sun Microsystems Inc, and Sun is in the rival Unix camp to the one championed by IBM and Apollo; Apollo does have an NCS, as IBM gave it in parenthesis – but NCS stands for Network Computing System.
