IBM has signed a five-year, €180m agreement with French retail chain operator Carrefour to take over the transformation, management and maintenance of Carrefour’s IT infrastructure and associated applications in France.

The agreement is expected to help Carrefour to optimise IT costs, enhance IT security and service quality, and reduce subcontracting.

Carrefour France’s entire IT infrastructure will be hosted from IBM’s European green datacentre in Montpellier. The retailer expects to benefit from the new technologies in terms of security, upgradeability and reduction of energy expenses.

Earlier, Carrefour has teamed with IBM and its partners for a promotion system across its supermarket and hypermarket stores to enable the planning and execution of targeted campaigns, with feedback as to their effectiveness.
