Frustrated that its microcode copyright infringement lawsuit against NEC Corp is stalled while the appeals court tries to decide whether Judge Ingrams should be disqualified from the case, Intel Corp is asking the US Customs Service to seize all imported equipment that includes NEC V-series microprocessors. The Santa Clara chipmaker says that it is prepared to post a bond to the value of the equipment seized. The Customs Service has not yet responded to the request. The move is another step in a new get-tough mood at Intel – last week it requested a court ban on Advanced Micro Devices selling any further 80286, 80186 and 80C51 chips that AMD manufactures under the 10-year second-source agreement with Intel, now in dispute.
