Mountain View, California-based Pyramid Technology Inc looks to be closer towards a new generation of systems based on the MIPS Computer Systems Inc processor, and is expected to release the machines some time next year. The company began development on the new line back in October 1989 (CI No 1,281) in conjunction with AT&T Co, having entered into an OEM deal with MIPS in May 1989 for low-end machines. Whether AT&T will now take advantage of the development could be in some doubt with NCR Corp saying that if the phone company does succeed in acquiring it, and puts it in charge of the combined computer company, most of what AT&T has been working on will be ditched. Pyramid was a pioneer in RISC technology, and launched a superminicomputer based around its proprietary RISC chip back in 1983.
