The European Unix systems User Group celebrates its tenth birthday in 1988, and is planning to celebrate the landmark with a Spring 1988 Conference hosted by the UK Unix User Group at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre across the road from Westminster Abbey. The Conference will be entitled Unix around the world and will discuss the importance of standards, portability, security and communications. Speakers from 15 different countries will give presentations concerning the AT&T System V Interface Definition, the X/Open Ltd non profit company for European application standards, the emerging Posix non-proprietary portable definition of Unix, secure Unix, Unix networking, and real-time extensions to Unix. Bell Laboratories, Dana Inc, MIPS Computer, IBM (Haifa) of Israel, and Pixar Inc will have representatives giving talks and a number of speakers will come from the academic world including the Universities of Tokyo, New South Wales and Kent in the UK. The conference will be held from Wednesday 13 to Friday 15 April, and several one-day tutorials are to be given on the Monday 11 and Tuesday 12. The conference will be open to members of the the European Unix User Group and /usr/group/UK.
