British Telecommunications Plc has won a UKP30m contract to supply Kenya with further digital telephone exchanges: the 107 UXD5s will be supplied by Communications Supplies Ltd and brings the total number of switches to be installed by 1992 to 218; the UXD5 was designed by Telecom to provide digital telecommunications in remote rural areas, with each exchange providing capacity for 1,200 circuits; they are manufactured under licence by GEC Plessey Telecommunications at its Coventry factory; Telecom is already supervising the installation of a UXD5-based trunk network for Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corp.
