NitroSecurity, a provider of content-aware security information and compliance management offerings, has announced its support for open source security efforts through development contributions to the new Open Information Security Foundation (OISF).
According to NitroSecurity, the OISF is developing a new intrusion detection and prevention engine named Suricata, which is a multi-threaded, protocol-aware deep packet inspection engine and includes support for community-based security, where sensors and organisations share intelligence to eliminate false positives.
NitroSecurity said that it will offer full management support of the engine through Enterprise Security Manager, FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified security information and event management (SIEM) platform for regulated federal and military networks.
OISF is part of the US Department of Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate’s Homeland Open Security Technology (HOST) program. The foundation intends to introduce long-requested capabilities in intrusion detection and prevention technology, including reputation sharing, and other distributed capabilities that allow groups of devices to operate together to better detect the types of distributed denial of service attacks.
