Quantum Corp’s Plus Development Corp is to release an interface that eliminates the need to run the full Novell NetWare Compsurf program when installing a hard disk drive on a Novell network. The company claims its Defect Free Interface automatically removes and replaces defective disk sectors, simplifies local area network installation and improves storage reliability; the product will be shipped as a standard component on its recently announced Plus Impulse drive system. Milpitas, California-based Plus Development says the drive system’s Cluster Disk Interface offers expandability of up to 2.6Gb without performance degradation, and with 40Mb or 80Mb storage options, offers an access time of 12mS. The Interface and drive are available now in the US; the 40Mb Impulse hard disk costs $900, with the 80Mb version at $1,200. The company plans to supply the products in the UK but has not offered any prices or dates.
