Apricot Computers Plc has been awarded a UKP1.5m contract by the Canadian Ministry of Finance. In the initial phase of the contract, STM, Canada’s largest systems integration company, is to link 500 Qi PS/2 compatible microcomputers over multiple Token Ring networks to an Amdahl mainframe. Applications will range from access to current financial information from international stock exchanges via remote links, to compilation of the Canada’s Federal budget. Fifty Token Ring nets have already been installed linking 500 80386-based Qi PCi machines. Each network is supported by a 25MHz 80386-based 660i, configured as a local area network server.
