Harris Corp, Melbourne, Florida has extended its takeover of General Electric Co’s semiconductor operations to cover the Microelectronics Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, which was excluded from the original agreement. Terms of the new acquisition were not disclosed, but Harris gets a new base employing 350 people on the design, development, fabrication and test of application-specific integrated circuits. Major products include high-density gate-array and standard-cell circuits based on advanced CMOS and CMOS/SOS Silicon on Sapphire – process technologies. GE Aerospace is a major customer of the unit, and the pact will include a long-term supplier relationship after the takeover.
