Bell Atlantic Corp, which some analysts say is now taking a lead position in the race to develop a digital highway with Tele-Communications Inc, said it had been talking with all the companies up and down the West Coast; Bell Atlantic executives compared the current technology convergence to the infancy of the personal computer industry, where companies like IBM Corp, Microsoft Corp and Intel Corp created an open architecture, resulting in developers writing popular software – a lot of the things you have seen happen in the computer industry will happen on a grand scale, said Steve Craddock, a Bell Atlantic vice-president – Much like the computer industry, when you start to create the operating software, services and applications will create themselves, he said.
