IBM Corp’s San Jose big disk drive laboratory and factory is working on a project to create a high-speed disk storage subsystem composed of an array of 760Mb 5.25 Winchesters, according to Electronic News. The idea is that the arrays should replace the low end of the 3380 disk drive line around 1990, and the team working on the project has a deadline of mid-1989 to complete it. The paper notes that IBM is basing the project on a future 760Mb drive of its own design, al-though at present it is seeking to buy in such drives. Modest recovery in IBM third quarter – page three.
