Carlo de Benedetti has moved to quell rumours in the Italian press that he is about to relinquish the reins at Ing C Olivetti SpA – but only to the extent of saying that he will remain chairman of the company for the next five years – as required by Olivetti’s agreements with AT&T Co: on his role as chief executive of the company, he says only that he has no immediate plans to cede operational responsibility.
