Wyse Technology Inc, San Jose, yesterday unveiled a modular family of 80386- and 80286-based IBM Personalikes. Users can upgrade performance or swap processors just by replacing plug-in CPU boards. The new line includes the 16MHz Wysepc 386 Model 3216 and three new models of the Wysepc 286 family – 8MHz Model 2108, 12.5MHz Model 2112, and 12.5MHz zero-wait-state Model 2214. The $700 WY-995 interface board enables users to link eight peripherals. Monitors compatible with IBM’s new Video Graphics Array, and a 3.5 1.44Mb floppy will be offered as options for the new machines from September while MS OS/2 will arrive in first quarter 1988. The modular architecture features passive backplane design with the CPU mounted on a self-contained, plug-in board. The Wysepc 386 single-floppy model is $3,800; the 40Mb model is $5,000; the Wysepc 286 family is $1,600 for the 8MHz with one floppy, 42,100 with 20Mb; the 12.5MHz is $2,300, $3,500 with 40Mb disk; for no-wait-state add $500.
