IBM Europe has announced an electrophotographic laser printer capable of printing up to 88 pages per minute for delivery in the second quarter next year. The 3835 Page Printer has direct channel attachment for all 370-type mainframes running under MVS and VSE operating systems with Advanced Function Printing support. A new version of Printing Services Facility/VM including AFP support for the 3835 will, when released, enable the printer to run under VM as well, and it is also to be supported remotely under all operating systems in due course. The all-points addressable printer can handle fanfold paper from 6.5 to 16 wide and from 3 to 14 long. It includes OCR-A and OCR-B fonts and bar code support and has a recommended usage up to 1.3m feet per month with machine resident diagnostics. The operator console only supports US English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and not English English. The printer is being manufactured at IBM’s plant in Jarfalla, Sweden for the European market. The UK list price will be UKP98,095.
