Alcatel NV’s Alcatel FACE SpA subsidiary has a contract from SIP to supply the equipment and build Italy’s new national X25 packet-switched network: the network is to cover the entire country by next year and double the subscriber capacity to 200,000 by 1993 with 100,000 access points: the Alcatel CIT SA DPS 2500 packet switch used in Transpac in France will be used, and the net will be controlled by the multiprocessor Alcatel 8300.
