Computer production in the former German Democratic Republic could be coming to an end, so reckons the Westdeutsche Landesbank: currency union has pulled the plug on any East German industries that in the past were preserved only by self-sufficiency and that includes the motor industry as well as the computer industry; the bank expects industrial production to drop by 20% in the new Federal states.
