Tandberg Data A/S, Oslo, Norway, this week introduces the X-terminals previewed last November (CI No 1,307) with 17 monochrome models for Unix and personal computers aimed at commercial office environments, rather than the scientific market. With resolution of 1,024 by 768 pixels, and a 78Hz refresh rate, the two are built around Texas Instruments’ 34010 graphics processor and come configured with from 1.5Mb to 4Mb RAM, X Window, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and two or 16 grey shades, as well as a Faraday screen shield and reduced radiation kit – they are out now. The TDV 6230 for Unix costs UKP3,000. The TDV 5260 for MS-DOS machines includes monitor, graphics adaptor board and software and is around UKP2,000. They are initially Europe only, but Tandberg, soon to have a Singapore co-parent alongside Siemens AG, is investigating US distribution too.
