When a live broadcast of your local American Football team’s game – the Fortyniners – is an institution in your Sunday afternoon programming, what do you do when all the players are on strike and there’s no game? The WKCR radio station in San Francisco solved the problem the other day by getting its regular commen- tators to apply their hyperlatives and their cliches to a computer-generated simulation of the game that should have taken place that afternoon – and suffered no drop-off in its usual audience figures.
