Paragon Software Group (PSG), a provider of data security and management offerings, has released Backup & Recovery 10.1 Free Edition, a disaster recovery tool for Windows-based PCs, which combines backup techniques and recovery environments.

Based on commercial backup and recovery software, the new version features cyclic backup, a self-acting data protection system compliant with the set-and-forget backup policy and enables to get back on track whenever Windows fails. In addition, it also supports the new Windows 7 for both 32- and 64-bit, backup techniques and new hardware as well as hard disk partitioning schemes, the company said.

According to Paragon, the new edition backups and restores entire disks, includes the option of resize during the restore operation. It also features a live imaging for a Win2K+ system with two snapshot technologies onboard- zero-install accomplishment of any operation with multi-platform bootable recovery media which users can build on a CD/DVD/Blu-ray disc or a thumb drive.

In addition, the new version restores on a granular level without the need to restore the whole image, the company claims.
