MSI has expanded its G Series of gaming notebooks with the addition of GT640 built on the Intel Calpella platform. The new notebook is powered by Intel Core i7 processor, Windows 7, and an nVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M 3D discrete graphics card (DDR3 1GB VRAM).

The GT640 features a 15.4 cinema display and weighs 2.7 kg including battery. It also features a new shortcut key above the keyboard. The company claims that the new notebook’s image processing performance has increased by 40% over previous models. In addition, with the Intel Core i7 processor’s built in Hyper-threading technology, the CPU is able to process even more data, giving the quad core processor the efficiency of an eight-core processor.

The GT640 comes with MSI’s exclusive ECO Engine that can be accessed via a dedicated ECO shortcut button on the control panel. It allows users to control the computer’s power consumption by using Document, Gaming, Movie, Presentation, and Turbo Battery modes to maximise efficiency.

With the Intel Core i7 processor’s Turbo Boost technology, it automatically regulates power supply through instant calculation of a program’s operating requirements.

The company added that the GT640 also serves as an audio and video entertainment platform. This notebook uses SRS Premium Sound certified audio coupled with 2 built-in speakers and 7.1 Channel surround sound ports.
