London W4-based Chernikeeff Telecommunications Ltd was demonstrating the new fibre distributed data interface capability of the routers it markets on behalf of cisco Systems Inc, Menlo Park, California at the Communications 90 exhibition: with switch rates of 20,000 packets per second, the router supports a number of protocols over FDDI, including ISO CLNS, DECNet, TCP/IP, X25, SNA, Novell, 3Com and AppleTalk; Ethernet bridging from DEC LAT and ICL OSLAN networks is also available, as well as Token Ring bridging from SNA and PC-LAN; most suitable for large networks, the cisco box with FDDI facility will cost between UKP30-40,000 when it is available in four to five weeks.
