Niksun has launched Puma, a new portable network monitoring appliance to track, capture and analyse the root-cause of network performance issues or security incidents.

The new portable appliance enables on-site analysis with localised recording and analysis. Data can be monitored at gigabit line-rates and with terabytes of storage.

Niksun said that although the primary function of new portable appliance is holistic network monitoring and troubleshooting, sufficient data can be gathered over days or weeks to help with security forensics, lawful intercept, policy compliance monitoring, capacity planning and bandwidth management.

The company claims that, with the new portable appliance, organisations can leverage Niksun’s network performance, security and compliance monitoring technology as a luggable appliance that can be used in the field.

The new portable appliance can be equipped with NetVCR (network performance monitoring) software, NetDetector (network security monitoring) software or both (NIKSUN Full Function Appliance) along with available add-on software modules.
