IBM makes very few acquisitions, but one it did make several years ago was educational software and industrial training systems developer Science Research Associates. Sad to say, most acquisitions it does make seem to turn sour, and Science Research Associates is no exception. IBM announced yesterday that it had agreed to sell the company to Cap’n Bob’s Maxwell Communications Corp for $150m before closing adjustements. The deal includes subsidiaries in the UK, Australia and Canada. The 500 employee company will be renamed SRA Pergamon. The sale comes as something of a surprise, because IBM was thought keen to grow in education.
