AT&T Co has now announced details of the reorganisation and decentralisation that it previewed last month, creating 19 business units and 24 divisions. The computer business is being split into three units: Networked Computing Systems, Unix Software, and Synchronous Terminals – the last being mainly AT&T’s IBM 3270-compatible terminals business. The structure is similar to the one that obtained 30 months ago, but much of the company remains unchanged: there are no alterations to the Network Systems operation that sells telephone kit to other phone companies; Technology Systems; or Bell Labs.
